I was about to cancel my MTOD subscription, like, literally, a few clicks away, and I discovered this show. I admire these women for taking this on because most of the blokes who watch will be mocking and critical and look at the girls’ boobs rather than their wrenches. If the show is interesting, I’ll keep watching.
It looks like Roadkill Garage has disappeared from among the (cookie cutter) MTOD offerings. I was on board with MTOD at the beginning, in order to watch Roadkill, but their machinations have become increasingly wasteful and pointless and uninteresting. And while they pay occasional lip service to fans, they never talk to them, do crap for outreach, have zero way for people to send in letters or comments and yesterday, I watched their $3k Hooptie Challenge and Freiberger and Drag Racing Dude were, frankly, d**ks. Project Binky, anyone?

I watched Roadkill on youtube and
after 40 or 50 episodes I just lost interest, but also I hated the way they behaved when working on anything.
A practical example of a typical dick move with that, and other similar shows is throwing used seats, panels and interior bits around the workshop after they take it out. Perfectly good seats are broken, smashed and ruined in other ways assholes think are funny. Or ripping apart boxes of new stuff and very aggressively throwing trash and parts around. They did the same think on MTVs Pimp my ride. I can’t stand that shit.
I am more put off by the bratty, spoiled and privileged attitude of wastefulness than the act itself, tbh.
Their
crossover episode with mighty car mods really showed how bad their behavior is - especially when contrasted to someone nice and respectful.

Sometimes when they just completely ruin expensive parts and treat their stuff like crap I just don’t even want to watch. I haven’t had MTOD but I could tell the show was going downhill.

FYI roadkill garage is still on there. The new user interface sucks, but it’s still there. It looks like they are now going to a more seasonal format where stuff is released weekly. David’s IG said roadkill garage is coming back.

They changed their scheduling so Roadkill Garage ended up pushed back while Engine Masters and Junkyard Gold had complete seasons. I personally liked the Hooptie Challenge. I mean, it w as a hooptie challenge. The people who brought cars were in on the joke. They have been showing a “coming soon” on the commenting system forever so I wouldn’t hold my breath for that but Freiburg gives out his Instagram and email. They’re always doing viewer questions in the Extras.
I like All Girls Garage but I’m sad that they replaced Rachel . The new host has a delivery that grates on me but Bogi is great.

This, the episode that did it for me was the one where they pitted a Subaru and the Ranchero against each other. In the previous episode, they beat the crap out of the Ranchero and then wondered why they couldn’t get it to run for in the next episode. They also openly admitted to running the Ranchero to redline and keeping it there because they were too lazy to change gears when racing the Subaru.

Really, it’s about the behavior, isn’t it? Roadkill Garage had Freiberger and Dulcich behaving like mature men and that appealed to me. Everyone else is being punk a**holes. I’ll give the women a chance before I quit. If I like their show, I’ll stick around. But even here, the lead-in announcement is voiced by a man. Why not by a woman? And there is zero way to even submit that comment.

In the beginning, when it was just Freiberger and Finnegan, and later, Dulcich, they were more humble and more approachable. Now, they’re jerks. I liked them before, now they’re all becoming insufferable. Also, I can’t seem to find Roadkill Garage on there anywhere any more. All the rest of the shows are cut from the same cloth.

It’s an OK show, like the personalities, but it’s very “produced” in how the work is done. Less intricate and less on the fly from more dedicated build shows.
Even Wheeler Dealers is better on the mechanical side than this show.
In the past it was anchored by a strong fabricator Jess Combs (RIP). Cristy Lee and Bogi Lateiner all have good mechanical background, along with new mechanic Faye Hadley. Bogi being a certified BMW mechanic & Faye a certified Toyota/Lexus tech. But it’s more about the directors getting shots of Cristy’s ass in a subtle ways. Not that I mind to be honest, I am a man, which is the primary focus of the show.
I rather it be more natural and more technical and showcase some more of the host’s solid technical skills.

Thanks. RK Garage, unlike Roadkill itself, retains a degree of dignity.

I want to watch more of this show. I have to check myself constantly to pay attention to their skills and not just to them. It kills me that this is how things are, and that I need to check myself. I want to encourage them and give them props for courage.
You seem to be plugged in. I have a question I want to submit to them, and maybe you could help me figure out how to do it. I want to know why, for All Girls Garage, the intro is voiced by a man. It’s like, we can have this girl mechanics show, but we have to mansplain first.

Not a MTOD subscriber, and n ever watched AGG, but I d iscovered Faye’s YouTube channel about a year ago and she’s fantastic. She brings a really great energy to her work and her enthusiasm is infectious. I hope MT is doing her justice as someone who knows her shit and not just as another pretty face.

my issue with MOTD is just TOO MUCH SHIT.
every other week it seems like there is a new show with some other knucklehead (who i’m sure if wel respected in his/her feild in the automotive industry) but holy shit.
Drift this, engine master, Hot rod garage, roadkill garage, roadkill and the throttle out were really the only ones I liked (and some of the dirt everyday stuff) and now faster with finnigan. The odd episode of wheeler dealers and top gear help it.
I still like the hosts (yea,
they are a bit narrow minded but, old hot rod guys, what can you do?)
rest of the shows are just fluff IMO

directors getting shots of Cristy’s ass in a sublte way.
That breaks my heart. Also, the intro is voiced by a man, so we can get the mansplaining out of the way up front.

Cookie cutter fluff.
Dulcich and Lucky seem to have remained themselves. Tony Angelo is finding his voice and has bona fide skills, though he seems to have a bottomless well of verbs to use instead of “install.” Throw, drop, stick in, et cetera. There was noticeable tension between Tony and Lucky at the start of Hot Rod Garage, but they seem to have worked that out.

Considering their combined technical experience, it sure does.
However, its not like they don’t know that’s part of the show. Cristy and the rest of the mechanics are fully aware that men will be their audience and I don’t think they have a problem with how it’s shown.
They wear tight out fits and flirt with the camera, but I think it’s really on their terms. Its going on 8 season now, they know what they have.

I’m not all that plugged in other than watching the Roadkill Extras where they explained about the scheduling thing and answer questions. The voiceover has been the same for years predating MTOD or it even it being the Motor Trend channel so it’s probably the production company that is responsible for that.

I’m really enjoying her recent series of videos with Danny where they go over cylinder head rebuilding. Some of this stuff, I didn’t even think was possible.

Motortrend on Demand has really been hurt by all the Discovery channel shovelware being added to the service. I used to check every couple days or so to see what was new but now that everything is buried in old Discovery shows I only go to the service when I know there is something new I want to watch.

yea, i do like how lucky and Tony have evolved. Id love to sit town with them and have a burger or something.
Now that finigan and the other 2 (Cotten and...mike?) have their thing, I KINDA like it? but its a bit make the show for the sake of making it and justify keeping finny on MT payroll.

And then , you never learn how much any of the stuff costs. Like, “Our friends at Gear Star sent use the transmission...” $6,500? $8,000? “Now, let’s go out and see if we can blow it up.”

Yes, all about the attitude! Let us know if this show is any good, hopefully it it sticks if it is. One explanation for the lack of audience input on MOTD could be that the target demographic is a little bit older than on Youtube? So maybe they don’t count on as many comments and inputs... I don’t really know, but it could be a possible explanation.
Is that 4x4 Dirt every day
show still going? I liked that one, the guy tends to be more chill and than others... At least when it’s just him and one more person -
on the challenges they were also a bit too careless.

They’re still on, but I’m not an off roader and they’re not working on vehicles that I find interesting.
